Fair trade certification is an independently audited standard that verifies workers throughout a supply chain are paid fair wages, work in safe conditions, have freedom of association, and are not subject to discrimination or forced labour. Certification bodies such as Fairtrade International and the World Fair Trade Organization conduct regular independent audits. When we describe a product as Fair Trade certified, it means a recognised certifying body has verified these conditions -- not that we or the supplier have made the claim ourselves.
Many of our fair trade products are also certified organic -- particularly our apparel range from Neutral, which carries both Fair Trade and GOTS organic certification. However, fair trade and organic are separate criteria and a product can meet one without the other. Each product page shows the specific criteria met by that product. If you need both fair trade and organic certification, please filter by both criteria or ask your account manager to recommend suitable products.
