While it all started out with an ethos of making repairable and long-lasting kit, Berghaus have pushed further to try reduce their impact and make a positive difference.

Becoming B Corp certified in 2022 is a clear sign of their commitment to using their business as a force for good for both social and environmental issues.

As part of this commitment they championed three local UK grassroots environmental organisations in 2021 including Down To Earth Derby who teach people how to practically grow their food and live a more sustainable life.

Berghaus are always exploring ways of reducing the environmental impact from their products. They established 'Made Kinder' in 2016 as a way of classifying low impact materials defined by either having over 50% recycled or bio-based content in weight, more than 90% bluesign® approved fabric or made with certified sustainable down or responsible cotton. Over 57% of their apparel products from their Season 2021 range fall under the 'Made Kinder' classification.

Berghaus have always integrated a circular economy into the life cycle of their products championing repair over replacement. Their Repairhaus team repairs worn and weathered items for free. They also collaborate with the climbing company Dirtbags to upcycle old or unusable products into new climbing gear.
