Plastic waste collected from the surrounding environment in Yangon, Myanmar, is cleverly woven with cotton to make these delightfully unique pom pom bags.
Made using traditional backstrap weaving with upcycled plastic bags, the Pom Pom bag is a take on the classic round seaman bag.
It is impressive that it is woven with upcycled plastic bags; a perfect example of old and new coming together to celebrate tradition while also raising awareness of plastic waste.
Creatively reusing rubbish, the social enterprise ChuChu Design in Myanmar brings you a range of innovative and eco-friendly items that are so bold and unique learning how to infuse plastic bags and sew them to make eco-friendly handicrafts.
All the members are from low income families, mostly women. The organization’s goal is to provide “environmental protection and sustainable development: building local capacities on solid waste management in Yangon, Myanmar”.
The enterprise is cleaning up Yangon and Dalah Island with their techniques of transforming waste into retail handicraft, each colourful, handcrafted item a fantastic example of how litter can be given new life.
