These colourful wallets are made from 100% upcycled plastic bags and Burmese newspaper collected from the surrounding environment in Yangon, Myanmar by the social enterprise Chu Chu Plastic.
The wallet interior contains two separate sections for keeping notes and a secure zipped section for coins. The wallet contents are kept securely with the aid of a magnetic closure
The waste plastic used to make the wallets is cleaned and sanitized properly before being laminated into sheets.
The sheets are then cut into the shapes and laminated to fuse all the pieces together. The sheets are then cut, folded and stitched into the finished wallets.
Creatively reusing rubbish, the social enterprise ChuChu Plastic in Myanmar brings you a range of innovative and eco-friendly items that are so bold and unique learning how to infuse plastic bags and sew them to make eco-friendly handicrafts.
All the members are from low income families, mostly women. The organization’s goal is to provide “environmental protection and sustainable development: building local capacities on solid waste management in Yangon, Myanmar”.
The enterprise is cleaning up Yangon and Dalah Island with their techniques of transforming waste into retail handicraft, each colourful, handcrafted item a fantastic example of how litter can be given new life.
